Dr. Christina Luong

Dr. Christina Luong is the director of the Centre for Excellence in Cardiovascular Core Lab Imaging at DCI. She is a clinical associate professor within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Head of Stress Echocardiography at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), and co-lead of the VGH-UBC AI Echo Core Lab. She is also a researcher with the Centre for Cardiovascular Innovation and a member of the VGH-UBC Hospital Echocardiography Laboratory.

Dr. Luong specializes in cardiac ultrasound imaging, with a particular interest in stress echocardiography. Alongside her imaging practice, she provides general cardiology care through the VGH Short Term Assessment and Treatment (STAT) Clinic and inpatient consultation service.

Her research focuses on developing and applying machine learning and deep learning models to echocardiography and cardiac point-of-care ultrasound. Working closely with UBC researchers in computer and biomedical engineering, she explores how these technologies can improve cardiac imaging and clinical care. She is a Canadian Institutes of Health Research-funded investigator and received the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and HLS Therapeutics Atherosclerosis Research Award in 2022.

Dr. Luong earned her medical degree at the University of Alberta before completing internal medicine and cardiology training at UBC. She pursued advanced echocardiography fellowships at VGH and the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and completed a Master of Health Science at UBC. She holds the distinction of being a Friedman Scholar and serves on the board of the Canadian Society of Echocardiography.
